The Girl Behind The Lens

Hi. I'm Stephanie Smith, owner of Pawsitively Pictures.I absolutely LOVE pet photography.

For me, pet photography is so much more than just taking a picture. Its about understanding the relationship between owner and pet and then capturing the candid personality of the pet one shot at a time. Both the images and the experience will bring joy and timeless memories that last "fur-ever" :)

Thank You {SPCA Dog Days Of Summer}

I just wanted to send out a big thank you to all who participated or contributed to the SPCA of Tampa Bay’s Dog Days Of Summer event held at Fletcher’s Harley Davidson. The event was a HUGE success! How huge? Well, we had 36 sessions that day {a record for the SPCA}. And with the donations, picture purchases, and a little help from Fletcher’s we raised nearly $1,000 for the SPCA of Tampa Bay!!!! Not bad for one days work :)
It blew me away how far some of the people drove to support the SPCA. I met pups from Brandon and Lakeland and one couple who lived close to Ocala!
It was definitely a great event. I loved getting to meet each one of the pups. There was a different personality with each session. Some happy, some scared, some curious, some tired. It was amazing. I think I met about 8 different dogs named Harley that day. Definitely a day I will never forget. Here are some of my favorite shots from that day. Again a big thank you to everyone who helped make this day a huge success :)

Brett {South Tampa Pet Photographer}

I fell in love with everything about Brett when I met him. His ears, his stumpy legs and his nub of a tail. As awkwardly proportioned as Corgis are there is something so right about them. You just want to smile as they waddle past you. Brett was a love, simple as that. All he wants to do is be near you whether its by your feet or in your lap. And smothering you with kisses? Oh yeah, I got covered during the shoot. I had such a blast with Brett and his mommie during our shoot in Harbour Island last week. The light was incredible and our model brought his “A” game :) Here are my favorites from his shoot.

Happy Monday

Julie + Chloe {St. Petersburg Pet Photographer}

She was a part of Dutch’s life before anyone else. Before his wife, Abby, before the second jack russell, Chloe. And even with all the transitions that life has brought Dutch, she is still with him. 16 years strong in fact. Unfortunately the reason Dutch contacted me to photograph his jack russell is because their time together is coming to an end. She has cancer.
I never know what to say when someone contacts me because their dog is on borrowed time. The reality that life as you know it is about to change is never easy to accept. All I can say is cherish every moment.
Okay enough teary eyes {including mine}, let’s talk about how even in her senior years, Julie and her sister Chloe {whose 15 years old} didn’t act a day over 3. They were curious, playful and full of energy during our shoot. I had such a blast with these two girls and their parents, Dutch and Abby. Dutch thank you for letting me be a part of Julie. She is awesome. I wish you many more happy months together. Here are some of my favorites.

Tito Tuesday

This Tito Tuesday is going to showcase the joy of a clean, cute dog turned Salt water menace.
The other day Tito, got his hair cut at Green Dog Wash in Tampa. This place is fantastic because it’s a self serve dog wash { with all eco-friendly products } with full grooming capabilities. Tiffany was Tito’s groomer and I couldn’t be happier with how he turned out. And no cheesy ribbon in the hair of scarf tied around his neck after his groom either. Instead Tito pranced out of there with his own original Green Dog Wash necktie. PIMPING!
So rather then parade him around town in all of his cuteness I decided that we should go for a walk on the beach…..What was I thinking? In a matter of seconds he went from a delicious smelling, pristine pup to a saturated, sandy, salt water dog. If I can be honest….I knew it would happen, I’ll admit it. And perhaps it was the inner child in me that always had to look nice and get dressed up at family gatherings yet couldn’t run around and get dirty that made me want Tito to run free on the beach. And free he went, running and chasing after the sea birds. I don’t know who was happier, me or Tito. Here are some of my favorites from our day.

Max {Tampa Pet Photographer}

I did everything I could to bring this little dog home with me. I begged, I pleaded, and was even willing to trade out a high resolution disk of all the images in return for Max, but Alicia refused. For this is her first shih tzu and she is totally smitten with him. And what’s not to love about this precious 5 month old? He’s absolutely adorable, with the fluffiest coat, the happiest disposition, and the longest eye lashes I have ever seen. I had such an awesome time with both Max and mom, Alicia last week at our on location shoot. Here are some of my favorites from their session.

Sneak Peek {Max}

Earlier tonight I had the pleasure of photographing Max, the adorable, adorable, Uh-Dorable 5 month old shih tzu . I am so in love with this little guy and couldn’t help but post a sneak peek from our shoot. Much more to come!

Bella + Murphy {St. Petersburg Pet Photography}

I’m so excited to introduce you to Bella and Murphy, the adorable yellow lab pair. This dynamic duo travels all around Florida with their mom, Amie, but they call Tierra Verde home on the weekends. Their favorite activities involve playing with the puppy friends in their complex, going to Ft. Desoto and running in the water, and eating carrots {lots of them}. They are the typical labs. Full of life and happiness. Bella is the lighter colored lab while Murphy sports the darker coat. Now Amie, told me that Murphy is quite the poser when it comes to pictures as he has been doing it for years for her. I totally agree with her but I must also say Bella threw down a few cute poses on her own :) And they were double the fun when they posed together! Here are some of my favorites from their session.

Wylie {Tampa Pet Photography}

Meet Wylie, the super adorable English bulldog who came into Gone To The Dogs Boutique to have her pet portraits taken. Wylie was the center of attention that day as her younger sister, Wren, also an English bulldog had to stay at home {she had just gotten spayed so was still recovering}. Wylie totally hammed it up for the camera. She had so many expressions and definitely shined with personality in each of her poses. However, when she was over having her picture taken she laid down and didn’t pick up her head until it was time to leave….HiLariouS!!! We tried everything from treats to her favorite red ball, but nothing was going to get her posing anymore. And as true to their breed, will power and stubbornness are their specialty :) But I think we still pulled off some amazing shots. Wylie hope to see you again, and bring your sister next time! Here are some of my favorite shots.
