The Girl Behind The Lens

Hi. I'm Stephanie Smith, owner of Pawsitively Pictures.I absolutely LOVE pet photography.

For me, pet photography is so much more than just taking a picture. Its about understanding the relationship between owner and pet and then capturing the candid personality of the pet one shot at a time. Both the images and the experience will bring joy and timeless memories that last "fur-ever" :)

I Love My Dog

It’s so funny to see how Tito has blossomed. I can remember when I first rescued him, he was so timid around the camera. In fact as soon as he saw my camera bag coming out he would go ahead and face the opposite direction as if to subtly say “I don’t think so”. Well, it’s been about three years since he became a part of my pack and I think that he has finally accepted the fact that his mommie is a pet photographer. Acceptance is the first step :) Now he hams it up for the camera 100 times over for me. He’s such an awesome dog and I am grateful for him everyday. Here is my favorite from yesterday’s super model shoot featuring none other then my man, Tito :)

Reese ~ Tampa Pet Photographer

Meet Reese, the spunky 4 lb Yorkie that belongs to Heather and Vinnie. This curious little guy loves to romp and play with his mom and dad. Half Yorkie and half Houdini, Reese has been known to escape out of very tiny places. Don’t underestimate that small little ditch in your back yard because to Reese that means an exit route. In fact, Reese went missing for a few hours about a week prior to the shoot. It turns out that he had made it through three neighbors backyards! Heather and Vinnie didn’t take any chances during our photo session keeping a close eye and leash on him at all times. And yes, he did try to escape while his mom and dad snuck a kiss during the photo session but he didn’t get too far, Heather was right there to scoop him up in her arms. Here are some of my favorites from Reese’s session.

Saturday’s Gasparilla Shoot

As many of you locals know, Gasparilla is quickly approaching. And with this day comes a celebration of pirates and pillaging. In addition to the normal Bayshore activities I also wanted to take this time to mention that Pawsitively Pictures will be celebrating Gasparilla, doggie style. That’s right, this Saturday make sure you come on over to Pawsitively Pets in Harbour Island and get your pups picture taken. There will be beads, bones, and booty (pirates booty). It’s going to be an absolute blast. And just because I couldn’t do a post without pictures, here is Tito modeling the latest fashion in Gasparilla attire. Arrgh ye mateys hope to see you there!

The Four Amigos ~ St. Petersburg Pet Photographer

I had been looking forward to this shoot for weeks. Rachel and Andrew contacted me a few months ago to do their pets portraits when they came into town. They’re from Georgia but were coming down to Florida for their wedding and they were bringing their pack with them. Infact, three of the four pups were the ring bearers, and one helped give Rachel away! I’m still waiting on the You Tube video from that one. Anyway, without further a due let me introduce you to Amos, Stump, Barnabas, and Solo. What’s so great about these guys is that all four are rescues. And, even better, they all get along. I was totally shocked and amazed at how well behaved they were. Amos, the collie mix, is the only female of the group. She has a nose for food in peoples pockets. You see her former owner was a homeless guy so I can imagine that she used her keen sense of smell to pick up any food she could find(including the whole bag of lamb and rice sticks I had for their shoot :) ). Barnabas and Stump were rescued together. Stump, the cattle dog mix, is a little hesitant to strangers but that’s probably because he and his brother Barnabas or Barney for short were rescued from a ditch where they were left to fend for themselves at only a few weeks old. And then there is Solo. Solo is the grandfather of them all. The big mastiff mix is a love to all, but has a special place in his heart for Rachel. Rachel rescued him when she was single, so for a while it was just the two of them. Oh how life can change. Now, one husband and three additional dogs later Rachel says she wouldn’t change a thing. What a great family. Here are some of my favorites from their shoot.

Tito Tuesday

Today is a good day. Finished all my emails, contracts and editing which left plenty of time for me to post a Tito Tuesday. Again, I apologize about my inconsistency but I promise that this week and next you will have Tito Tuesdays. This week is an oldie but goodie. You see, last year I went to the Global Pet Expo in Orlando. It was an amazing assortment of companies that had new products, new food, and new inventions. In addition, some also had new clothing lines, hence the motorcycle Biker jacket from Orange County Chopper. As soon as I saw it, I knew Tito had to have it. And as I got home and placed the jacket on his back it was like the glass slipper had found its foot. Here are some of my favorites from that shoot.
On a side note, next weeks Tito Tuesday is going to be geared towards our Gasparilla Studio Shoot celebration on Saturday, January 30th at Pawsitively Pets in Harbour Island. Fun fer all ye mateys.Arrgh :)

The Parks Pack ~ South Tampa Pet Photography

Meet the Parks Pack….A total of five labs. FIVE Labs!!! Seven if you include their foster Sammie and grand dog, Kona. You may recognize the first picture from the welcome gallery of my website. This image was actually featured in the June 2008 edition of beach life newspaper. My assignment was to write and report on a family who had gone to the dogs. I think its pretty safe to say that Terry and Michelle have gone to the dogs with Buster, Leo, Chloe, Emma and Balou. And while they swore off anymore animals the unexpected happened. Sammie came along, who is the newest temporary member of the Parks Pack. Sammie was brought into St. Pete Beach Veterinary clinic when the owner discarded the 13 year old lab saying they could no longer care for her and they were moving out of town. Afraid to take her to a shelter, Morgan, daughter of Terry and Michelle Parks and vet tech extraordinaire took Sammie to the next best place she could think of, her parents house. Here, Sammie has been hanging out, eating super healthy foods and living the way any senior dog should live. She is free to a good home but until then she is quite content with her temporary housing and five other siblings. If you or someone you know is interested in giving Sammie a permanent home call Morgan at St. Pete Beach Veterinary Clinic, 727.367.0096.
And also, because there are just so many amazing pups to the Parks Pack I included a few shots of Kona, 7 month old grand dog to the Parks and Buster, the handsome 14 year old father figure of them all.

Lucy and Linus ~ Brandon Pet Photographer

I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I had with Courtney, Courtney’s mom, Courtney’s man, Lucy and Linus a few weeks ago. Courtney contacted me in the beginning of December regarding pet photography for her two pups, Lucy and Linus. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to do an on location or studio shoot so I suggested we do both. Oh the joy of a traveling studio. I was able to get to know Courtney and her crew over an afternoon at her mom’s house. Lucile, or Lucy for short, is a doll. She listens to commands, walks well off leash and is a total grandmas girl (Courtney’s mom). Linus on the other hand is slightly different from his sister. He tends to march to the beat of his own drummer and can sometimes get a little mischievous. Never shying away from treats he would use his beagle senses and try to pull them out of my pocket. Needless to say it was alot of personality captured and a blast of an afternoon. Here are some of my favorites from their shoot.

Stoney ~ Tampa Pet Photographer

Meet Stoney, loyal companion, faithful service dog, and world traveler. His mom is the owner of Pawsitively Pets, a fantastic store on Harbour Island carrying only the healthiest and most organic options for any kind of pet you have. Stoney is getting close to 12 years old and still going strong. Now granted he lives the life, mom cooks him all organic treats and pushes him around in a stroller. His main duty during the day is to nap and welcome people into the store. All I have to say is, I wouldn’t mind coming back as Stoney. After I finished up with some pet portrait sessions at the store I had the opportunity to take Stoney around for his photo debut. Here are some of my favorites.

Shorty and Ivy ~ Harbour Island Pet Photographer

Meet Shorty and Ivy. Two precious pups whom I had the pleasure of photographing at Pawsitively Pets the other weekend. Shorty is a spunky bulldog with super strength personality. While Ivy, whose full name is Princess Ivy of Princeton, is an absolute doll who will sit and stay perfectly all while maintaining an ear to ear smile. Yes, these two were a blast to photograph and get to know. Here are some of my favorites from their shoots.
