The Girl Behind The Lens

Hi. I'm Stephanie Smith, owner of Pawsitively Pictures.I absolutely LOVE pet photography.

For me, pet photography is so much more than just taking a picture. Its about understanding the relationship between owner and pet and then capturing the candid personality of the pet one shot at a time. Both the images and the experience will bring joy and timeless memories that last "fur-ever" :)

Kabuli {St. Petersburg Pet Photographer}

Dr. Tiffany Rimar is my vet. And she is a darn good one at that if I do say so myself. You see Tito started having seizures about a year ago. Typically the only option is to give a dog phenobarb for the rest of its life. Dr. Rimar is one of the few vets in the area who takes a more holistic approach to the treatment of your pet. Tito has a special diet of fresh meats, vegetables and grains, herbs and acupuncture. Yup I said it, Tito gets acupuncture. I believe this has helped him a lot. I am forever grateful for Dr. Rimar and recommend her to anyone. But in addition to her holistic veterinary skills she is also an amazing mom {of the four legged kind}. Kabuli is her canine kid. The bond they shared was super special. You see while Dr. Rimar was in vet school Kabuli entered her life as a lab dog. Dr. Rimar saw much more then that and decided to make her part of the family. Talk about a rags to riches story. This was a really fun session with everyone. Here are some of my favorites from the shoot.

Happy Howl-o-ween

Just wanted to share a few pics of the first ever real sighting of Count Dracula. It’s very rare to see him out of his coffin, especially during the day but we were fortunate enough to spot him during one of his few outings. Just looking at these pictures might strike fear into your soul so heed this fair warning.
Hope everyone has a very Happy Howl-o-ween from me and Count Dracula-ah-ah-ah.

Dear Jake {St. Petersburg Pet Photography}

Dear Jake,
As long as I have lived in Pass-a-grille I have known you…..Well, not really known you, maybe more like “acquaintance” known you. But I do recall every other day seeing you go for your walks off leash with your mom and sister, Scout. I always wondered how you could be so well behaved. You knew your route and didn’t stray from that. And I loved it when our paths crossed you would come up to me and just lean on my legs. I’m not going to lie, there were a few times when I didn’t anticipate your full body weight against me and I would stumble backwards. And then, it happened. I received news that your kidneys were failing. Jake, I am so sorry that this happened, and I wish I could’ve taken the pain away from you. I’m sure your mommies felt the same way. We all just wanted the ol Jake back. Well, that wasn’t how it ended. I’m still missing you. I’m still wishing you back. But I’m glad you are safe, pain free, and up in doggie Heaven. You left a huge impression on me as well as everyone in the “grille”. Such a beautiful soul.Lots of love to you. And lots of love to your family.xo

Shadow + Diamond {St. Petersburg Pet Photography}

Today I would like to introduce you to two sisters, Shadow and Diamond. These beautiful weimaraners belong to Bob and Tracey. I was so excited when Tracey contacted me. They found out about me through Max’s mom {the adorable shih tzu I photographed last summer} and wanted to capture their girls in action. These girls were great. I was so excited when I came to the door to see two wagging tails greeting me. Turns out they were more excited about my camera bag which was filled with chicken strips. The first part of the shoot took place in the backyard. You see Diamond is 12 years old so while she totally wanted to be a part of the shoot non stop, we needed to make sure she took her a/c breaks. Being a model is such hard work :) The second part of the shoot took place at a park near their house. It’s where Diamond and Bob always used to walk.Here are some of my favorites from this session.

Dog Days Of Summer Success

I would like to send a HUGE thank you to everyone who came out to support the Dog Days of Summer event at Fletchers Harley Davidson last month. This is my second year volunteering for this event and I must say, I have thoroughly enjoyed myself. Last year we were able to raise just over $1,000 for the SPCA of Tampa Bay. This years goal {my personal goal} was to raise even more money for our new beneficiary, Bay Area Animal Response Team {DART}. I am happy to announce that we raised $1300 for DART!!!!! There were so many amazing pups {and even one cat} who came to show support.  42 sessions in 5 hours made for one successful event. Thank you thank you to everyone. Here are some of my favorite memories from the day.

Dog Days of Summer Event

Alright everyone its that time of year again. The Dog Days of Summer event at Fletcher’s Harley Davidson is here. Come one, come all for the fundraising event which will benefit the Bay Area Disaster Animal Response Team {DART}.
There is no fee for the studio photo session!!! That’s right! No fee. The only thing you will pay for are the $5.00 prints, and the entire amount will go to DART. Last year, with the matching contribution of Fletchers we raised close to $1,000. Help us do it again this year. I’ll be there all day from 10 a.m – 3 p.m. come meet me and get professional pet portraits while also doing good for the community!

Slinky + Daisy {St. Petersburg Pet Photography}

I’m so excited to introduce you to Slinky and Daisy. The cutest daschund duo I’ve seen. It all started with an email and a picture from Sandra, Slinky and Daisy’s mom. If their picture was any indication, I knew we were going to have a great session. And we did. They came to Pass-a-grille for their photo shoot. I found this really awesome patch of ivy and thought it would be epic to photograph them in there. { I’m so glad that people are okay with my quirky ideas, “Hi Sandra, I know I’ve just met you but I would love to stick your dogs in this patch of ivy over here.lol} Well, the ivy worked out well, as did the entire session. Here are a few of my favorites from their session. Oh and on a side not. Check out the series of Daisy doing a half twisted misty flip off of Sandra’s legs. Girls got skillz :)

Maya + Stella

Meet Maya and Stella, the two adorable pups to owner and artist, Tania Romero. I was so excited when Tania contacted me to photograph her girls. Coming from another artist I feel like that is the highest compliment someone can give. So Maya, Stella, Tania and I ventured into Tampa for the on location shoot. The light was beautiful, location divine and so was the company. Tania is a beautiful person inside and out. She finds happiness in art and tries to also bring others that same feeling when they look at her work. Her contemporary style allows her to capture the personality of the subject with colorful expression. Not only are the paintings beautiful and one of a kind but they also benefit the community. Tania believes in giving back so 10% of each sale is donated to charity. She also helped organize Cause for Paws which benefited the local Humane Society. And this year she is hoping to host an art gallery event which will also benefit the Humane Society. I could go on and on about the good Tania is doing for Tampa, but I think I want to post some uber adorable pictures of Tania and her girls. Here are some of my favorites from their session. Make sure to check out Tania’s artwork by clicking on the link below.
